Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout

This is the first beer I am drinking based entirely off a recommendation by Joey (spoiler, he will be writing some reviews in the future to come stay tuned!). Joey is the sole reason I truly started drinking craft beers, so I hold his opinion and recommendation above anyone else. I had seen him drink this beer before and only had a small sip of it to taste. I remember liking it but not having enough to go off of, so I decided to take his word for it and get a bottle of my own. This is a style I usually stay away from because I have had one other oatmeal stout in the past and just was not a fan, but like I said, when Joey calls a beer his "desert island beer" I'm not gonna pass it up because of one bad beer...Now for my review: This beer is black. Blacker than black, but also so refreshing. I had to hold multiple flashlights to it, seeing if a light would shine though, which never happened. Simply put, this beer is fantastic. The stout flavor still stood alone in the beer despite having a sweet, malt-like oatmeal flavor. The two flavors complemented each other better than any other combine beer I have ever had before. They go together like "lamb and tunafish". I just can't put into words the flavor because it is so unique. The beer taste almost like a malt type beer, but without being sweet. I think I understand now why Joey called this his desert island beer, because it has all the flavors you need. It has the stout, it has the malt, it has the "syrup-like sweetness" all the while still being so refreshing. The one thing I did notice about this beer is it honestly doesn't have a scent to speak of. I couldn't smell one and when I thought it was just me I asked Lindsey to give it a whiff and she said the same thing. I was surprised by this, but it had no effect on how amazing this beer is.
